Fire and Ice

by Tota Longmire

I’d rather play with fire than ice.
Cold and hard ice will conform
To the warmth of my shape yet
Shivering into the false comfort
Of death does not appeal to me.
The flames of fire will wrap me
And warm the inner reaches
Of my soul before it consumes
All that I am and could be.
I will be reborn into something
New and different, even if
It is just ashes.
