items of interest

by Charlie Morgan

t.v.s in surround-sound rooms,
woodpeckered in the warm air;
softened by walls, my inattention.

i was concerned with things
of great consequence;

i could no longer hurl a child's star
as high as i once could, though my pail
of stars for the youth was still full.

so, i got a new beatle-jacket:
when i'm 64. wore it today.

i take the day personally so why is it windy?
nippy, cool? seems a little angry at my neighbor
and maybe i'm in the way. surely not me.

Lauren says we know how it'll end. that's scary.
i believe her and that makes me run faster.

Oh, Charlie! This one is sumptuousness and rich, and full of sooooo many good references!
