My Family

by Rebecca Bowen

I come from a long line of losers,
Half stoners half boozers,
We always have a drink in our hands
I'm part yankee, a little redneck,
We're always the suspects,
My bloodline made me who I am.

I want to make a difference,
But I've been told my entire life,
I'm just another Bowen,
And that my fate is the same as theirs.

That 420 is every night,
And drinking every waking minute.
I want to make a difference.
But when you're growing up,
And being told you're gonna be like them,
It seems not to matter anymore.

I listen to Bob Marley.
Stoner music at its finest.
No, I'm not quite one,
But look at who my Unlces are.

I want to be me,
But I'm afraid the gene I'm most scarred of,
Is the most dominant one in my body,
I really want to make a difference.
