Barter System of Sorts (W/ Vince Blake)

by Anita Mac

I have drawn your face
a million times
in my mind
and my hands are still waiting
on permission to follow suit.

this is not a primer.
i won't pretend an expertise
in the science of spending
less time on a precipice.
but sweetheart,
know that my permission
only delays my acquiescence,
and that my acquiescence
is rarely borne of good intentions.

That right there,
my artist statement to you;
explanation enough of my lingering, loitering stare.
The heat of your discomfort is enough.

There are no control issues here,
I just happen to be in control

this time.

but this is not a timer.
there are no benchmarks for seduction,
and the lines between prodigy and ingenue
intersect on pregnancy tests.
and by then,
i've already slithered past small talk,
onto your bedroom floor,
and into the fistful of regrets
you swing at all your equally bad judgments.

so don't look at me
like the control you boast
came without its price.

Author's Note: Vince really surprised with the direction that he took it, and I kind of love it. Pretty amazing, that Mr. Blake, and apparently capable of some gritty sexy lines.

Clearly I have a hell of a task ahead of me. You two can do no wrong in this thing.

I love you two and this poem.

to slither past small talk is a neat trick. Also, love the opening bit. Hands are an impatient wanderer, often.

I failed chemistry, regularly -- no such misfortune afflicting this aesthetic association...

This is sort of special isn't it?
