I Will Follow You Into the Dark

by Aaron Blair

I am certain that I have never deserved you,
the uncomplicated love you have given me,
your labors to know the intricacies of my soul.
Never once did you call me a mystery.
You put your shoulder to the wheel,
steadfast in your desire to sort me out.
When the blood came, the tears,
you found a way to wade through them,
sure that it was worth it to reach the other side.
I am always here waiting for you,
because I know that you will reach me.
Still, the feel of your hand in mine scares me.
I never wanted to need anyone,
to imagine being needed in return.
I have to keep telling myself to remember
that I know you are not going to let go.

I adore that song, that idea of devotion, and you capture more of it here. Thanks, Aaron.

That's one of my favorite songs, and this poem does it perfect justice. Great work.
