Replaced by the Dog
by Maude Curtis
I’ve been replaced as the “Top Bitch” in my house,
By a red-haired, dark eyed beauty.
She thinks to be at her beck and call,
Should be our one and only duty.
Just 5” tall and 18” long,
She weighs in at barely 10 pounds,
she definitely throws her weight around,
And can always stand her ground.
She convinced the other dogs here,
By a simple snarl, nip and growl.
That she is the boss and to stay away.
Whenever she’s at the food bowl.
She sleeps wherever she wants,
On the pillow beside my head.
So I end up kissing a wet snout.
When I wanted to smooch on Fred.
That cold, wet nose all down my back,
When she dives underneath the covers,
And settles herself in the curve of my knees,
Until she gets over the shivers.
But who can resist those dark sad eyes,
And give her whatever she begs for,
cause she gives back tenfold what she takes
In ways we’ve come to adore.
