who're we kidding by Charlie Morganmy I.V. to the t.v. is thru my ears;
Law & Order is on a marathon again,
and my judge is out to lunch,
while the court is out of order.
a once-backpacking-7th grader
is fastly becoming hard core;
learned how to roll a joint,
now trading in squares.
when the judge returned his verdict;
i returned my stare, my glare;
fixed firmly at the society i share.
forged in youth and steel: a recidivist,
born from the very laws meant to protect.

| Posted by Michael Smith on 10/21/10 at 09:26 PM Really enjoyed the words "forged in youth and steel." Very powerful. I always love the way an /idea/ flows in most of your work. It's like play-dough being shaped in your skillful hands before our very eyes. Anyway, your last line says it all, and any of us with a crazy enough family (or crazy enough ourselves) know the taste well-- that of an adversarial justice system. Excellent.

| Posted by George Hoerner on 10/22/10 at 12:15 PM Good write Charlie. And it's not unlike education where at times we educate our young and then sit back and say why are they so poorly educated? If we keep throwing people in prison at the rate we do, pretty soon I'll be able to vote myself in as President and also be the Congress and the Supreme court. And this why we call ourselves a law abiding nation. Some day we’ll have enough police officers to put one in every house. |
