My friend

by Chloe Sanders

When I first saw you
I thought you were as pretty as pretty could be
I didn’t see the battle going on inside
Your mind telling you nasty lies
The tears inside
How you could be anything but beautiful
Really perplexes me
Then we became friends
And got to know each other
And I realized you were even more beautiful on the inside
You helped me more than you could know
Just listening
Having someone to sorta know
Everything I went through
You helped me
You believed in me
Saw something in me
That I could not see
And though I’m not that religious myself
I refuse to believe that there is a god so cruel
That would let someone like you
As beautiful, kind and caring as you
Have anything but happiness in your future
I wish I could help you more
Anytime you need me just knock on my door.
But I really just wanted you to know
That we all absolutely adore you
