IDF by Travis G FinborgAs the mortars crash around
-the dull thump in my chest
-the pillar of black smoke and dust
I ponder my lonliness
I stare in a disconnected way
as the soldiers around me
scramble for their armor
the cry goes out for a medic
but I dont see any blood
i stare in bemusement
at the scramble
turned out nobody got hit
just a couple of charred
holes in the ground
10/18/2010 Author's Note: IDF is an acronym meaning Indirect Fire. Direct fire would be rifle fire, indirect is artillery, mortars, or rockets.

Having been in the Air Force only between Korea and Vietnam I have no idea what it would be like to be shot at or to have mortars falling all around. Just come home in one piece! |
