Looks are Like Listerine by Ken HarnischGot no time
To say hello
Or dissertate
Whatever you meant
To me once seems
To have been lost
Along with my glasses
And though I tried
I just can’t get it back
I’m sorry to hear
About your aunt
And I’m mildly surprised
To find out Henrietta
Ran away with her boss
And damn, girl,
You do look good
But looks are
Like Listerine:
It comes in
Colors now
And even tastes good
If you have to swill
It for a bit
But then you
Remember
It’s still antiseptic
And it burns
And after you spit it
Out, the taste
Only lasts
Until your next meal
Which I’m working
On now, sweetie
My next meal
I mean.

Posted by George Hoerner on 10/14/10 at 01:30 PM I reconnected with a girl from high school who I loved madly. We dated by going to drive in movies but I knew she really liked another buy. Now she will talk of nothing much more than the weather as if we barely knew each other. She lives in CA and I in SC so there is a lot of distance between us. You capture is quite well in this piece. |
