My dog has a girlfriend

by Steve Michaels

at least I'm suspicious
that he does
I've caught him in the morning nuzzling
my droid and startled he
skulks away to
nest on a chair.

His long black snout and
windblown ears would
catch the eye
of any woman
longing for love and
cuddlenuzzles

my photo gallery full of his
on the back legs in
the air postures
head back and tongue
thrown out in
delirium

When I leave the house he
checks "when will I return,"
and would I "please
call as I get
close to home."

My dog has a girlfriend and
I don't blame him
He's often alone.

It reaches that rare level of whimsical that is actually fun to read.
