smoke another one

by Vikki Owens

28 years and i reach the epitome,
and grab for some nicotine,
following up on all those self-destructive tendencies
that have always been my mode of operation.

I used to have this friend who smoked all the time, and every time he would light up around me, I would say, "That $#%@'s bad for ya, ya know." One day, in response to this very statement, he turns to me and says, "The way I see it, my lungs are so filled with tar and sh*t that they have to work twice as hard as yours. So really, it's like they're working out all the time, and are probably in much better shape than your lungs are in." I never said a thing to him about smoking again.

All I can say is that you don't ever want to watch someone die of lung cancer. I knew someone in NJ years ago who did. Not fun at all!
