Another Day

by Jeffrey Parren

As the ball sailed over the fence
the pitcher quickly looked around
to find something
in which to release his raw emotion
that was quickly becoming planned
and as he lost time and ideas
he suddenly thwarted
a petulant kick
at the rocky and weedy dirt
residing just a few feet away
somehow feeling better
since, after all,
another batter
another day.

And even a 20 game pitcher lets a home run fly once in a while.
