ravenous

by Lauren Singer

without a doubt,
i will give you
just enough.

i don't mean to sound forward or
unlady like, but the truth is,
i am not like the other gals you've been with.
i don't expect anything from you.

all i want,
is the sure thing.

all i can hope for
is the give of your spine
when i press my nails against it,
and dig in.

i want to be sure that you understand me.
i don't care
if you call.
i don't need
your reassurance.
i won't ask you
if i'm pretty,
and i don't
want to meet your mother.

all i want is to satisfy this ache
with bruised hip-bones,
and a soft longing,
and a mutual nod:

it really hit the spot.
this was just
what we needed.
