Dreaming by Quinlan L GibsonStanding on the edge looking out into the world I want to conquer
Yet I keep getting pushed off the 20th floor balcony,
Without an ominous falter; it hits me like a thunderstorm
Wicked and unforgiving; drenching, drowning
All the while continue to dream of living
And pursuing that pot of gold we’re told is there.
Breathing in the air that reeks of hypocrisy; Aristotle’s famed tragedy
Poetically leaving a stale trail on a stained veil.
Inflate and desecrate in gilded mendacity
Tenacity slapped in the face; replaced with rigormortis
It contorts and deforms into lethargy
Festering ironically in the same spot passion is born.
Unsheathed knife; A dead husband to a newlywed wife
And they say, it’s just life.

Posted by Stephan Anstey on 09/15/10 at 02:42 PM a little rappish. You trying to compete with Eminem? You going to be Queinem? |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 09/15/10 at 07:17 PM Not sure. I do know I love what's here. |
Posted by Susan Q Tomas on 10/05/10 at 06:20 PM I wouldn't call it "Dreaming" as much as nightmare. |
Posted by Johnny Crimson on 10/06/10 at 11:41 AM "Tenacity slapped in the face; replaced with rigormortis" You get brownie point for using rigormortis effectively without sounding like a halloween sticker! :) |
Posted by Bethany Lee on 10/19/10 at 11:27 PM I enjoyed this piece. Sounds like spoken word. I do agree with changing the title, though. Dreaming is too soft of a title, imho. |
Posted by W. Mahlon Purdin on 11/30/10 at 01:00 PM Leave everything as is. How could you change it? Poems are like a chain reaction. You write them and something happens but who knows what. An "ominous falter" or a "pot of gold." This poem is beautifully both. That's life. |
