infamy

by Angela Thomas

i've become semi-famous. the lady that rides
around in a bright, immaculate ice cream truck
dishing out hit after hit after hit. smiles like
assholes, everyone has one. random nights

out and a stranger at the bar recognizes me,
asks for rainbow sprinkles. dating and the boys
keep calling me miss freeze, instead of something
more like my name. the want to see me in my apron

after wearing it all day for work. they want to watch
me cook, clean, fuck, sleep, eat, repeat. because
the way that i do things is special, unique.
so brilliant. so one-of-a-kind. at night i sleep

alone, a pillow by my side. they don't want
to see me cry. they want to see me perform, entertain.
