Conversation

by Jeffrey Parren

In this life
of disarray
you sometimes run into
a conversation
that takes you nowhere
but that is okay
because it passes the time.

Other instances
you fall into a conversation
that needed to happen
and perhaps
your willingness
to not force the issue
brought about
the topic in the first place.

Tonight
I allowed the beast
that is death
to pass without discussion
though it was on my mind
until I stumbled onto
the very conversation
I was hoping would happen.

Common experiences
allow depths unknown
to be reached
and kindred spirits are formed
through this.

I got to share
pieces of my memory
and to hear the like
back.

The memories

those thoughts you keep
of the ones
not around anymore
keep them here
but discussing
and speaking the words
send their energy
through the world again
as if they never had left.

My heart is warm tonight
because my energy
used in your light
heated me from within

which tells me
I will be okay

as long as you are in
my memories.

Well done! Sometimes memories keep us alive as well us them.
