I don't want to go where he is not.

by Aaron Blair

He says "I think you would be better off"
and he means if he were dead,
but instead of feeling terrible,
the way I know I would if I were right,
my heart fills with the joy of companionship.
Finally, he's on my page,
the last one in the book,
and we can read the words together,
before we go to sleep.
My enthusiasm for the idea scares him,
though, and he quickly changes his mind.
Instead of pills, I swallow disappointment.
It could have been over,
but he won't go where I am
and I don't want to go where he is not.

Dark stuff to be sure, but I also pick up a weird, very grim sense of humor throughout. In any case it's great.
