Text Conversation with an Un-Pearl

by Jon-Jacob F Deal

SHE: Are you still
upset
with me?

ME: Not
upset. Just
tired
of being
unhappy.
You are
a piece of grit
that will
never
become a pearl
in the oyster
of my
life. So
you have been
spit
out.
Ptooey.

SHE: Understandable. Just
thought
things would
go
differently.
Like
we'd be
awkward friends
or something.

ME: No. No more
waiting,
wishing,
hoping,
disappoint
ment,
confusion,
in
adequacy,
anger,
jealousy,
longing,
disillusion
ment.
Nothing.

SHE: Yeah.
I got that. Oh
well.
I'm leaving in Jan
uary any
how.

ME: I don't care.

I am
free.

I've been walking around your library, and once again, I'm stunned by your talent.
