A Strong Mind by Jeffrey ParrenA strong mind
is an oxymoron.
Like a tolerance
and taste
for beer and alcohol
the mind
must be conditioned
to be strong.
Why is it
the mind vs the body
is a problem
for many philosophers?
A strong mind
should be able to control
even the weakest
of bodies
but that is not always
the case.
Even the most
steadfast person
has weak moments
where the body's drive
is significantly stronger
than the want of the mind.
Maybe that's the point.
The body doesn't think,
it just does.
The mind in all
it's thinking glory
is easily manipulated
or simply denied
by a force that is
by definition
ignorant.
I wrote this
while my body wanted
to be laying in bed
after a run in the heat.
I guess my mind won
this battle. 08/30/2010 Posted on 08/30/2010 Copyright © 2024 Jeffrey Parren

Posted by George Hoerner on 08/31/10 at 12:38 AM I think the problem that philosphers have is that the mind does not appear to be a single entity. That is if you beleive in the subconsious. In fact we still really have problems understanding so many things about the "mind" and its relationship with the body. Where does the one end and the other begin? All of our perceptions come through the body so with out them what would the mind to for recreation? Still, a good though provoking write. |
