way to the future

by Charlie Morgan

sidewalk bathed in splotchy shadows,
little hand leading the way, "c'mon
Pawpaw i'll show you the future."

so nice to be shown the future,
for i'd seen the past.

it was evidently just down the street.
"Pawpaw, you just go down here and turn
this way, then you turn at that street.
got it, Pawpaw?"

crooked four year old finger pointing
into the darkness of night.

lo and behold, i had never known
where the future was or how i could
get there. hidden in plain sight.
and it's in the neighborhood.

Love this! Those little fingers design and draw the world, don't they?

Love this, especially the last stanza...
