Deception

by Jeffrey Parren

All this talk
about the devil's greatest trick
and his existence
is really
the greater greatest trick.

It's the deception
that admitting one exists
while trying to
act like he doesn't
proves the other does.

Where would this world be
without God
or the religion that follows
with the followers?

Would everyone suddenly
treat every morning differently?

The good times
could be spent without guilt.

The bad times
chalked to just bad luck
which everyone will tell you
changes.

The greatest deception
God ever pulled
was not defining
his real relevance
rather letting
the creative little devils
do his dirty work.

...respectfully jeff, i love this. read a whole lot of your work, nearly all you've posted and this is SOME SERIOUS POETICS here. i appreciate the fact that you capitalize God, the Supreme Being...all the directions one can go with your words like you used[well!]can't say enough. and i've deduced[to me, anyway] that those 'lil devils' are temptation and free will. free, but if misused but very costly...sorry for the scroll, i am charged-up with the mature attitude in this, no whining, just askin', eh?

It seems to me Jeff that we play with words. We don't seem to believe that we could be good without god and yet we refuse to take responsibility for our own actions. Some of us have no conscience and some feel guilty for breathing. We look to things for which there is no proof, some believing one things some another with one carrying no more weight than the other. As someone said you buys your ticket and you takes your chances. Good write.
