The Only Decision

by Aaron Blair

The only decision love allows
is how far you will let it bend you before you break,
when you'll remove the jagged pieces of your remains
from the scene of the crime, heart empty, hands full,
with a body bag, an evidence bag, a suitcase of tears.
All you can do is start over with someone new,
the new rack, the new screws,
and you're all healed from the last time,
so you've already forgotten the routine.

Author's Note: I told him, we all have a threshold for how much pain we're willing to go through in order to be with someone we love. This is a decision that people make. So hating yourself forever because you hurt people who loved you is silly. In a relationship, you only hurt people as much as they let you. All anyone has to do to stop being hurt is leave.
