A Modern Fairytale

by Megan Langley

There once was a princess all dressed in blue;
Though she was quite lovely, she didn’t have a clue.

Down to her bosom her blonde locks did flow;
You’d be surprised to discover she was lacking a beau.

But gentlemen today desire a woman with a brain,
Not one who merely possesses the quality of being vane.

So unfortunate she was to have such flawless skin;
Maybe without it, she’d have her choice of men.

As it turns out, her luscious lips caused quite the hindrance,
For it drew men’s attention to a mouth that spewed worthless nonsense.

Her dainty little feet were perfect for a gift of glass slippers;
Yet, her date would rather her use them to depart lest the evening gets worse.

So even if you are a pretty princess dressed in a variety of blues,
You’d better learn a lesson before your egotistical stupidity ensues.

Author's Note: I was hoping to create a silly little fairytale in which beauty didn't matter and intelligence actually did...

...and you did just what you aimed to do, cool, real and more than cute.
