the waitress knew me

by Charlie Morgan

rounding the corner, a tray of food
balancing apples and triangles, she
grinned, nodded and called me PawPaw.

a state away, a table of eight
and she KNEW me! my chest swelled;
i filled the room to capacity.

manager called the fire department,
saying one man had filled him up;
i, overloaded him with Ego.

then i remembered: i had my PawPaw
cap on and grandson in tow. so.
i knew her too, she was Jesus.

she was just dressed as a waitress;
hearts and rose petals followed her,
as she trailed-by. i had an extra hug.

gave it to her.
