City Faces by Amanda BullingtonOld faces raise both hands
And peer over their city
Proudly bestowing their people with love
Heads rise and greet these
Faces with respect, staring straight
Into the sky, eye to eye with the
Heights of their cities.
Perhaps there is a furtive
Religious glance there too,
As the people always present purity
Before the city faces
[to say nothing of their private lives]
Only in the night
are the heights are ignored and unnecessary,
when the starless night acts as a guide
to everything ancient and holy. 07/13/2010 Author's Note: Inspiration in the city centers of Belgium
