Killing Time by Paganini JonesHe shuffled his feet
gazed out to infinity
"Let's kill time," he said
and muttered a profanity
I looked at his watch
considering possibility
"Yup - it's time gotta go," I said.
I thought, "what complicity!"
He gulped down his pint
with practiced ability.
"Ma sister's doing time," he said.
"she had accessability."
The barman rang the bell,
with a sudden alacrity,
shouted "time's run out: time!"
so we left with credibility.
Time waits for no man
and it flew with great velocity.
"We're wasting time," I cried,
with only slight pomposity.
We passed a little boy
playing drums with furiosity.
"Beat time," he gasped, "beat time!"
I thought, "He's getting rather cross with me."
But time's a great healer
according to publicity.
and I'm told that "time will tell"
so I saw the risk to me.
"I won't kill time" I said,
"You think this out more carefully."
"Kill time" he said again.
"It slips by quite disgracefully.
"Make time," I said, "to smell a rose,
Like that one glowing radiently,
Or take time out to sit and think."
"I won't," he roared impatiently.
"I won't go, take time off.
That's just not how it's meant to be."
So I took and smashed his watch.
And now he simply will not talk to me! 08/18/2010 Author's Note: Inspired by a topic posted by Paul Lastovica. Thank you Paul!

Posted by George Hoerner on 08/19/10 at 12:14 AM For a draft I'd say it has been done quite well. Time for me is not an easy concept. Some call it the 4th dimension. I understand the other 3 but when did time begin and when does it really end. Certainly not with death for it would have far too many loose ends. |
