No More Heroes

by Alison McKenzie

I’m taking this at face value.
I’m not pinning any hopes
On the chest of any heroes,
Those badges faded, battered;
The time for that long since passed.

I’m going to go to the ocean
And bathe in every roar
As if my life depended on it.

I’m going to walk softly
Through every field and river
That must be crossed to get to me.

I’m listening silent
On the breath of these winds
Come to whisper me home.

It is certainly time for our 'heroes' to come home isn't it? Nice write lady.

Good write Alison. The first way to our humanity is to knock down those we've put up on pedestals or those who would try to climb them at our expense.
