Dreaming in Toys

by Madeline Lamb

My bronze dragon nest
hosts embers, eggs!
And I who become lengths
of relaxed muscle on a wet lawn,
so be it.

Who said rejoice in it?
Revel, relax, sleep in it.
This is my rejoicement,
a parliament of stories
piled on a bare mattress

each word we utter,
an upward-floating bubble.

Checkered cake, check this:
My smoke and silver make souls shiver.
