On Working for the Man

by Joe Cramer

Lets keep you down,
down, down, down,
so very far down
so that you can never rise
you can't ever rise
above your status quo.
This much you should know.
Lets make you feel small,
belittle you,
throw your sensibilities
against the proverbial wall.
Lets keep you down, down, down,
aslways so very far down.
It's as if you're indeed lucky
to have this job at all.
That you should feel
obligated, while you're down
to pay for what you do,
instead of being paid
an honest wage
for an honest days work.
The man keeps you down, down,
so very far down that
you cannot see a way out
or anyway up for that matter.
Add to that
lets scramble among ourselves
so much so that we all claw
each other while trying to rise
above this predicament we're in.
Cover your eyes
and close your mind,
and just hang around
while working for the man
keeps you down.
