Philosophical Mirror 1

by Kristen Heyl

Sunlight glances off the water
causing me to turn away
from the beauty I was looking at.

Slowly I turn back
only to see the scene
has changed in the one millisecond
I had turned away.

The wildlife has scattered
cautious of impending doom,
and the wind has picked up.
Whitecaps are churning on the water
and plump raindrops fall from the sky.

Natures' symbolic way of showing us
that if you turn away from life
for the smallest second,
it quickly changes direction
leaving you stuck in the previous moment
and possibly behind in time.
