the way

by Jared Fladeland

i don't point the way
i just see something in the middle
something between what lies in the cracks,
how water rushes underneath the rocks
back to the river and into the ocean.

the way a leaf can stay in the air
against the wishes of gravity,
that's how a person can live a life time
beyond the rules and regulations of
common place physics.

the way a rock can last centuries,
perhaps a little eroded,
but still a solid mass,
i can engage the tempest of the unknown
unfazed
and go to the depths unknown to man.

the way the sun both creates light and shadow,
i can live my life
knowing both sides of all things,
never allowing brightness to blind me,
but never allowing the darkness to shroud my vision.

i cannot point to the way,
but i can continue to see what exists beyond.

Engaging and vigorous, drenched in the clear beverage of wisdom.
