the scratch in my throat by Maria Francescaso it always starts the same:
someone passes by
and says
'hey - are you okay?
you look a little off'
and I look at them,
puzzled,
and say
'no, I'm fine'
and keep walking,
noticing the scratch in my throat
and shrugging it off -
probably allergies.
then I sneeze
once
twice
three times
and I say
those allergies are a pain
(sure glad I'm not getting sick).
I cough a little
and carefully fail to notice it
because if I was coughing
I would definitely be sick.
I feel a little tired -
shouldda gotten more sleep last night, I think,
and clear my scratchy throat again
as I head on home
and lay down in bed only to realize
I can't breathe through my congested sinuses
and I groan,
'okay,fine -- I am sick!'
only this time
I'm not sick -
I'm happy
and in love. 07/11/2010 Posted on 07/11/2010 Copyright © 2025 Maria Francesca

Posted by George Hoerner on 07/11/10 at 04:12 PM Love does at times catch in our throats and makes us sneeze doesn't it. It's maybe like a surprise gift we didn't see coming and we smile and shake a little and maybe even get a little tickle down our spine. Nice write lady. |
