The Seed You Plant Is The Seed You Grow

by James Zealy

When a seed of anger
Is placed in fertile soil
Bursts of rage multiply 10 fold

When a seed of hate
Makes its way to a furrowed row
Corruption of thought erases all reason

When a seed of sadness
Swallows planted hopes
Desolation envelops what remains

When a seed of apathy
Seeps into growing life
There is no longer a sense of care

When a seed of passion
whittles apathetic reason
Energetic growth erupts

When a seed of compassion
Embeds itself in a garden of faith
Reason supplants irrationality

When a seed of joy
Floats into a land of despair
Then flowers of spring embellish hope

When a seed of love
whispers its song of comfort
Then a reason for belonging is insured

As long as it yields something as sharp and lucid as this I'm good.

I really liked this poem for its ecclesiastical feel. Very well written and said :)

You reap what you so...when you plant a seed of well-constructed wordcraft, a tribute to the many means and method of harvest hopes, you allow the idea of action/reaction gardening to take root, to grow, to blossom. Beautiful, James...

Um...that would be 'sow'...though I suppose the other would work in some bizarre metaphoric fashion...

awesome piece! the seeds we plant every day have an effect on us and others in more ways than we know.

Here's the thing - some seeds are duds. I mean, seriously, not every seed germinates. Just say'n.
