Life After ________

by Madeline Lamb

each white-cold trail
fingers, warm skin.
each cold pendant,
chilled collar.
each red and rolling eye,
what shame? What word?

Cutting note, purity-
Beyond each and every
it's pretty simple.

And the length of muscle,
flex and contract,
arch back:
Who needs religion now?

Insert your preferred prayer, the name of your god, the thing that you are exalted by, here...what an amazing piece, Madeline...it is now a favourite of mine!

it's the details not mentioned i love best; The unspoken imagined holes i fill as i see fit. "Each cold pendant" really set it off, for me. and the final question brought me back to thhe begining.

Life after...le petit mort? As did Paul, I also found "each cold pendant" a striking line.
