At The Steps Of Eden

by James Zealy

I stand at the steps of Eden
Amid the whispers of original sin
Pondering a restless pursuit

Where passion supplanted innocence
And Adam's Rib companion
Became an eternal object of lust

Deception is painted from the devil's palette
That the carnal beast is our solace
As I descend the steps riddled with debauchery

I find my restless search
Reverts to a desire
For a mind that speaks a language of peace

Where comfort is the communion of souls
And intimacy is transfixed with spirituality

I really love this whole poem but stanzas 3 & 5 are particularly striking. "intimacy is transfixed with spirituality" I find my thoughts transfixed on this line specifically. The most awesome thing about that statement is, to me, knowing that I do not receive any condemnation from the one who designed intimacy in all forms, carnal or spiritual, and not only designed it but walked in humanity, in truth, indwelling a body like ours. Fantastic poem, JZ! (rhymes fantastically with JC :)

Great imagery throughout. I particularly enjoyed that second stanza.
