what would i be? by Charlie Morganas Papaw i want to be a birthday card;
one that reads: Grandpas are like a good
cell phone plan: i'm free on weekends and
evenings, have unlimited minutes for him
and i give him the greatest reception.
a card, two sides, me multi-sided. coach,
taxi, friend, confidante, pal, lecturer.
in one, i'm an encyclopedia, a thesarus,
complete with a verbal ennuniciator. and
as importantly i give explanations.
4 is staid. un-bending. sold.
whereas: 4 going-on-5 is taller;
he stretches to meet that limit.
Ryan's 6...oh so big. school and all.
i look into the eyes of wonder. trade?
what for? what will be the tit for tat?
the zero-sum for love of fulfillment?
his smile, it rings Big Ben and winks
o'er the ocean of my three ring circus.
