Water by Jeffrey ParrenThere is something to
the whisper of the water
as it creeps upon itself
layering towards
a river bank.
I find myself lost
in the sounds
and how it makes
my heart slow
and the breeze
cools my warmth.
Humans are more
than half water
maybe this is why
I am drawn to it
and why
I feel at ease
when water
can be heard. 06/24/2010 Posted on 06/24/2010 Copyright © 2025 Jeffrey Parren

Posted by George Hoerner on 06/24/10 at 01:24 PM Nice write Jeffrey. Is it because we grow first in our mothers water that we are drawn so much to it and find it so soothing to our nerves?
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 06/24/10 at 02:47 PM ...yeah what George said and it was such a place for brad paisley, in his song re: water...you give it a very personal nudge...good 'un.
Posted by Linda Fuller on 06/24/10 at 11:29 PM Jeffrey, I really like your first stanza - "...as it creeps upon itself..." is a wonderful way of describing rippling and lapping. And your poem reminds me that I've been away from water too long.
Posted by Therese Elaine on 06/24/10 at 11:57 PM This is beautiful and bittersweet -the poignancy of seeking out the liquid susurration of human contact, floating, frolicking and drowning in so many different bodies of water...going into my favourites, Jeffrey!
