Dishes

by Jeffrey Parren

What is it about doing dishes
that is so therapeutic?

Is it the time to think
or the sense of accomplishment?

Whatever it is
I feel somewhat better
after washing the pots and pans
first
then the silverware last.

The organizing and cleaning
puts order to my life.

I love it!! Thanks for another memory. I grew up, well maybe, washing or drying dishes with my brother. I still do it even though we have a dishwasher. My wife, 10 years younger, thinks I'm crazy. Maybe she is right but I still at least at times to wash the dishes by hand. Maybe it is a way to make me feel I'm a child again or back where I was raised. My daughter's husband used to own a restaurant in Miami and does most of the cooking. The first thing he does when finished is to clean all the things he used in the cooking process. He still leaves the dishes to his wife. But I've watched him clean and you would love to have pots and pans and cooking utensils as clean as keeps them. Thanks again.
