My angst was already strong enough
until you thought I was joking
or perhaps I didn't realize you were
when you told me I could
start with proofreading

which to me
was anything to get into the door
and eagerness is not my strongest suit
it's no wonder why
with the world as it is.

Maybe it was the wine talking
or perhaps your overall good mood
and maybe I was just simply
your server
being your servant
like everyone else
but

I got my hopes up
only to never hear from you
and since I cannot find
a way to contact you
I'm the fool
who was actually
eager to work.

I hate the game
and it hates me.
