Section 60 by Maria FrancescaI'll attend a picnic today.
Mattress World will feature a blow-out sale today.
You won't be able to mail a letter today.
Time-and-a-half pay for those who work today.
Summer starts, unofficially, today.
The Arlington Ladies
will continue the sad business
of honoring the fallen
as Section 60 receives another occupant today.
If you can-
If you have a spare moment-
remember Section 60 today.
05/31/2010 Author's Note: Each time a service person is interred at Arlington National Cemetery (from any war or conflict), the burial is attended by one of the Arlington Ladies, a group of Volunteers who honor the dead who are buried there. Section 60 is the area at Arlington where those who have fallen in the current wars are buried. I wish we could close Section 60.

Posted by A. Paige White on 06/01/10 at 07:01 AM I videoed (through a camera lens)The Changing of the Guard with my family once. It was awesome. The replacement guard glared at the soldier he was replacing while he was inspecting the rifle of the guard he was replacing. I've often wondered if they do that every time or if his gun was somehow not immaculate. I wonder what duties and ceremonies the replacement guard for section 60 (war and death) to peace and life entail? Thanks for making me think about it. |
