Each Shattered Seedling by Linda FullerThe mirror hides behind a thin disguise
resplendent armor girds a hollow gourd
each shattered seedling sprouts its own demise
Gaunt jackals gorge on carrion surprise
drunk constellations spin in starred accord
the mirror hides behind a thin disguise
Rage at the fates the gods withhold the prize
quixotic impulse whets the sweetest sword
each shattered seedling sprouts its own demise
We puff and groan pretending to despise
the dragon crouching on his miser’s hoard
the mirror hides behind a thin disguise
The parrot chitters secrets to the wise
all harmony resides in strident chord
each shattered seedling sprouts its own demise
Tears sluggishly escaping from your eyes
reflect the killer’s grip the twisted cord
the mirror hides behind a thin disguise
each shattered seedling sprouts its own demise.

Posted by Brian Roberts on 06/03/10 at 01:47 AM Quite impressionistic, though I do not like labels: they constrict like colorless pythons. I love the first stanza, second line..a stark villanelle indeed. 'Quixotic impulse whets the sweetest sword': piercing line....will read more of your work. |
