Caveat Arachnid by Linda FullerVoracious one, above my kitchen sink,
your web a larder for indentured food
which dangles, juicy mobiles on the brink
of sweet extinction's sucking attitude.
As I wash plates, you organize your nest;
pluck silken lines and spread your net to trawl
the air; an insect hovers on the crest
of getaway, but loses to the haul.
I'll take as rent the husks of flies you aim
at me. Mosquitoes: eat your fill, my friend.
But should a moth mistake your lair for flame,
your tenancy may reach a sudden end.
I'll let you thrive, your belly swell and bloat
but I will choose the sacrificial goat.

Posted by Max Bouillet on 05/25/10 at 01:14 AM I love the way you make the spider seem like an air fisherman. Casting nets into the sky! Awesome imagery. The ending is also very nice. You in turn chose the sacrifice. Very circle of life above the kitchen sink! Awesome way to view the universe in a common setting. |
