Nutella girls

by Eric Hinkle

little girl babbling in
French
loud and heart-warming
Her dad stands in line
with proud eyes
and open wallet
She's a few feet
away, twirling and
being cute
I'm behind them
with a grin
and open wallet
(tho mine's slimmer)

Dad steps up to clerk,
her skin a Nutella cream
like the god-juice she
spreads on those fresh crêpes
"3 Euros" - yet worth the world
Dad takes the two crêpes
and daughter runs up with
running grin, looks up at Dad
with huge green eyes
He gives her hers
They walk off dazzled
by sweet perfection

I step up next
and
one minute later
chomp into my own slice
of saintly chocopie
