poison moon

by Peter Hsu

poison moon
don't hide your heart from me
let me drink your pale nectar
and dive into your dark sea

because the rabid dogs of summer
are breaking with the dawn
and i hear them howling
howling
at the heels of the sun

the growing season's dying
and the reaping coming fast
what's green and gold must shrivel
must stiffen
must not last

poison moon
cast your pallid nets
trap me in your dusky waters
and
of time
let me forget
