More or Less

by Alison McKenzie

I hear you
Because I have an interpretive organ
Capable of detecting the vibrations
That escape your lips
In the form of words,
Reach my brain,
And untangle themselves,
One from the other,
In a way meant to help me understand
What it is you’ve communicated.

Take away my ears.

Can there be understanding in silence?
Do the waves of your intentions
Reach me still?
As long as I have any senses capable
Of receiving your vibrations,
Given any frame of reference
Won’t I still understand?

And what is truth,
That my receptors
Should crave the experience
Of knowing
One absolute definition.

And how much change is created
By simple observation?
The particles, sensing an energetic proximity,
Respond in kind,
The original configuration lost forever
Because
. . . . we
. . . . . .looked.

...ali, it's quantum physics, the minute you capture[the]it, you have disturbed it in its milleau, therefore if you do see it, it's not itself, it is itsefl altered because it no longer os free to "behave" ... ya and ya and more yas...i good description of that which is indescribable...love it, especially the direction of twain ne'er meeting.

this felt like a science project and i liked it. i love anatomy...i love the punching details you have here. the specific...pointedness of it gives it more sting. energy & excellence...this is caviar underneath a microscope.

There is a rather weird, beautiful science to this poem. I love it, especially the opening.
