Stroboscopic: Reduction

by Richard Paez

Stroboscopic: Reduction

Your voice still reduces me to snap-shot, stroboscopic, still-frame, staccato (beats
being nailed to (the wall
I've built is too thin to protect (you
still remind me of the time before the me I know hated the me (I know
we lived in dreams and syncopated (notions
possess me (still
I can't seem to shake this (feeling
your lips against (my own
voice rises now and (always
I've counted on you to whisper me a way (out
here life seems (cold
and shivering I walk into (another day
breaks and so do (I
remember the sound of (your voice
still reduces me to (childhood
laughter is the broken record of (my life
seemed so much better when you were here –

life seemed so much better when you were here –
life seemed so much better when you were here –

life seemed so much (better
find a (way out
here and looking back I still hear (your voice
never sounded so beautiful in (the past
is never as far away as (it seems
I've learned to take a closer (look
at me and tell me (the truth
is never as far away as (it seems
that life was so much better when you were here –

life was so much better when you were here –
life was so much better when you were (here

I stand and (listen
to me (please
listen to me (please
listen to me (please
listen to me (please
make it (stop
dreaming and join me in (the real world
isn't as real as (is seems
the past isn't as far away as (it seems
the truth isn't as far away as (it seems
that life was so much better (when you were here

I knew how to (live
your life and be happy (my love
for you is (my whole life
was so much better when you were here –

life seemed so much better when you were here –
life was so much better (when you were here
I knew how to live.)

Richard it took me a few lines to get into this but I like. The repeats like a stuck a record, shows how old I am, is very effective. And let's face it we never exactly what to say to make someone stay or come back.
