Lost and Found

by Kristen Heyl

Roughly two years ago,
you opened your home to me
and the adventures began.

I had lost my mother a year previous
and was dealing with all the emotional "baggage"
that one goes through with the loss of a loved one.

You had your own worries to deal with
for your one and only child was sick and in the hospital.
A few months later you had to deal with the loss of your son
and it is a loss that still echoes in your heart to this day.

You have helped me through so much in my life
and with such unselfishness that I feel it would be appropriate
for me to honor you on this day.

You have stepped into a role of mother
that needed filling in my life
without making me feel as though
you are trying to replace her.

Natural instincts come into play many times in life
and that was one of those times.

We both had lost loved ones
and are filling gaps in each others life
without pushing out the memories
of those that have left.

Happy Mother's Day!
