Homeless Rose by Mark Maxey
I saw a homeless man sitting upon a fifteen foot concrete cowboy boot
He had on about three to four layers of clothing
His grayish white hair was matted and peering out of his dirty cap
His fat fingers were arranging discarded bouquet roses
He was intently placing inside a discarded Styrofoam cup
Several persons walked by all wrapped up in their concerns
But upon his face was the most beautiful smile I had ever seen
Though he too was discarded thus no one paid him any attention
But I saw him
He was smiling for God had given him roses this morning
Society may have discarded him
But in his heart he knew God had not forgotten him
This day with grey overcast clouds and a slight wind breeze
Brushed past the soft red petals held in a discarded cup
For a discarded man who was not forgotten
