Staircase to Revelations: I

by Danny Washington

As I climb from a hole, and focus my eyes,
A face on my ceiling stares back.
He holds the key to this ambiguous land.

I attempt to stand, but my legs are soft.
I can barely see and there's ringing in my ears,
But in the distance there is music,

More beautiful than anything of this earth.
I follow the sound and abandon my womb;
I open the door and step into the unknown.

The is no light in this house, only the
Orange glow of the street lights outside.
But every surface glows, alive with the sound.

I'm in another room, same size as mine.
The floor is covered with faceless people
laying lifeless under a floor sized duvet.

They say nothing as I enter, and walk
Towards the window. Looking out I get a shock,
We appear to be thousands of feet in the air.
